Hill Country Getaway to The Good Morning Ranch

Susie Robb | ShopFromSusie.com • Aug 21, 2020

Covid-19 restricted our usual vacation spots, but with the help of Lodgewell, we were able to make this summer vacation absolutely memorable!

If you remember, I rented a condo in downtown Austin to ring in the New Year with this fabulous rental company. Click here to read about that trip. At the time, they were under the name “Top Trip Rentals”. Top Trip Rentals has rebranded to Lodgewell, and well we lodged indeed! Lodgewell and their incredible team will forever be my go to for destination home rentals in Texas.

For this family trip we chose Lodgewell’s newest property, The Good Morning Ranch. The Good Morning Ranch is a Rural Ranch Retreat boasting 10 acres of unadulterated Texas Hill Country. It’s nestled down a dirt road just minutes outside of Wimberley, TX which is the CUTEST and COOLEST Texas town. You’ll feel like you’ve fallen off the grid which is exactly what I was looking for in this family vacay!

When we walked through the door we were we were greeted with retro, GREEN kitchen cabinetry, vintage country music posters, quilts and mounted deer heads! So very Austin, and so very cool! The bag of chips and queso (and my FAVORITE salsa) on the counter made me smile from ear to ear. Lodgewell has a history of making me feel at home, and their amenity boxes did the trick!

We arrived upon the home and I immediately thought Little House on the Prairie. The rusted tin roof and Adirondack chairs around the fire pit had me dreaming of s'mores and nights under the Texas stars! The kids rushed out of the car to take it all in.

We unloaded our suitcases and coolers and made ourselves comfortable in the living room. The kids found the extra large Jenga pieces and bubbles on the screened back porch. It kept them entertained for hours until we broke out the puzzles Lodgewell has provided.

The kids loved the house. The close quarters made us feel like we were all together and yet, there was plenty of privacy if you needed it. The television is small, but honestly, we never turned it on. We spent most of the time outdoors exploring the property.

Robert and I walked the hiking trails, amazed at all the land and scenery! We spent every night of our stay in the Adirondack chairs talking about the future. It was so magical. …and we may have made a cocktail or two with the Rambler Sparkling Water. You can see our new recipe below.

We slept like babies in our bunks and woke up to the sunrise and good, strong coffee that was fully stocked in the home. Good Morning Ranch is about a half hour’s drive from Schlitterbahn Waterpark and only fifteen minutes from Canyon Lake. We hit up both of these attractions during our stay. We rented a 24′ pontoon on Canyon Lake and got every kid up on the knee board! The waters are a gorgeous blue and I highly recommend Canyon Lake Marina for your water sport needs.

Other area attractions include:

  • Jacob’s Well Natural Area (swimming sport with spring and underwater caves)
  • Blue Hole Regional Park (forested area with swimming, rope swings and floating)
  • Wimberley Market Days (antique stores, restaurants, bars, art galleries, live music)
  • Countless wineries and distilleries including Deep Eddy Vodka and Dripping Springs Distillery.

When we returned to the ranch we grilled hot dogs and roasted smores in the chimenea. The second night we ate THE BEST barbecue at Creekside Cookers BBQ. We ended up back at the Good Morning Ranch and had an impromptu Talent Show under the string lights on the deck. My karaoke won first place! ha!

This wasn’t the first time my kids have spent time with Robert’s children, but we are grateful for the bonding that happened here at the Good Morning Ranch. If you are looking for a couple’s getaway, a girl’s weekend or a family retreat, look no further than this property. You’ll love taking time away from normal life to find peace and love at the Ranch or any other Lodgewell properties. xo!

Camp Blanco boasts an 18 acre property that’s the perfect getaway spot for your “pod” with 2 separate homes, a bunkhouse, a game room and two camping tee-pees (13 beds total!) and tons of outdoor space to roam. We used this gorgeous space as our baby moon getaway and it was the quintessential setting to spend quality time together and enjoy the beautiful open air. This dreamy and secluded spot used to be a Girl Scout campground in the 1940’s, and you’ll see several nods to the historic space throughout the property. From The Ranger stone house, The Brownie bunk house, and The Tagalong luxury tents, you’ll feel like you’re in an adult glampground!
